Highway Type

There are three basic highway types available in RSAP:

·    Undivided Highway - An Undivided Highway has one baseline Scribble201 down the center of the alignment.  Traffic moves in two directions and the volume is proportioned by the traffic split variable.   Four types of encroachments are possible: (1) primary encroachments left, (2)  primary encroachments right, (3) opposing encroachments left and (4) opposing encroachments right.

·    Divided Highway  - A Divided Highway also has only one baseline Scribble201 that is positioned in the center of the median.    The traffic volume is assigned to the primary baseline using the traffic directional split variable.  Like Undivided Highway s, four types of encroachments are possible: (1) primary encroachments left, (2)  primary encroachments right, (3) opposing encroachments left and (4) opposing encroachments right but in the case of divided highways the left encroachments enter the median.

·    One-Way Highway  - A One-Way Highway can be either a one-way street or a ramp or an independent alignment of a Divided Highway and is represented by one baseline that is positioned along the left edge of the left-most travel lane.  The traffic volume must be distributed 100 percent to the primary direction as there is no opposing direction. Only two types of encroachments are possible: encroachments left and encroachments right.
